The quick and the dead

Galatians 6:10: “Let us do good to all people, but especially to those who are of the household of the faith.”
The Germans did have a problem with the Jews. The better economic performance of the Jews demonstrated that their very different way of life was indeed better than the German way, or at least more efficient. That automatically meant that the German way of life, a matter of national pride, was wrong. It’s hard to know that you live a wrong life.
Christianity and Hinduism exist in parallel spaces, not infringing on each other. Judaism and Christianity are at odds. If Jews are right, then Christians are wrong. If Jews prosper, then there seems to be something wrong with the divine promise to Christians. Nice Christians and resourceful theologians could explain it otherwise, but that’s how most people see the situation.
Jews were institutionally inferior in Germany. We were officially discriminated against, openly defenseless. Repressions against Jews were implicitly sanctioned, even if the state usually stopped the mob from outright slaughter of Jews. To kill a Jew, if not precisely legal, was logical and reputable.
